Keep sandwich activity, but find alternate (less messy) activity

Less mess: How to Build a (Playdough) Snowman. Follow similar procedure to PBJ activity, but have students write directions for how to build a snowman out of playdough. Pick out a set of not very specific directions to follow. Follow/read aloud directions explicitly.

Less mess, might be a little expensive. Materials:

Gum drops
Styrofoam cup
Toothpicks

Have each student create a model of his/her own design with the materials above. Have each write directions to create his/her model. Select a set of directions and follow them explicitly. Compare your model to the student's to see the differences.
