Add events section #157

Closed ct-martin closed 5 years ago

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

It would be nice to have a section to highlight the events we have, such as MakerFaire, ImagineRIT, etc.

This would be structured like the other post categories on the site, with some custom skinning perhaps.

TODO: Fall

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

If someone takes this on for Hacktoberfest, the "good first issue" version is to create a section is to create a new site category like how projects is done. That won't completely fix this issue as it lacks content, but it'd do most of the work

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

It would also be good to integrate SEO into this

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

167 starts this.

Would like a cleaner, more flexible template (could also be used in Projects section) as well as the SEO. This issue is also for adding more (air-quote) "real" content.

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

@jrtechs can you scrape the RITlug Twitter for a few years of content on this now that the section exists as of #167? You can use the sample post I made for reference.

jrtechs commented 6 years ago

@ct-martin cool I can do that.

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

Note to self: better media handling (gallery/types)

Tjzabel commented 6 years ago

Also this issue

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

@Tjzabel no context given there :P

This issue also has a primary part of @jrtechs scraping the RITlug Twitter for content

Tjzabel commented 6 years ago

@ct-martin ah, alrighty. So maybe we can rename this issue from "Add events section", to "Add content to Events section"?

Because, since the past few PRs, there is now an events section

ct-martin commented 6 years ago

@Tjzabel I'm going to be making technical improvements too based on the content and kinds coming in. But yes, it might be worth updating the issue title

jrtechs commented 5 years ago

I'm going to work on importing some events into the website this weekend.

ct-martin commented 5 years ago

@jrtechs thanks! remember, this issue is for posting write-ups & photos of old events in the events section (just double-checking so you don't do more work than you need to). See the Tim @ Flock event for a template.

@jwflory I really like your blog post on the 2017 Maker Faire. https://blog.justinwflory.com/2018/01/rochester-mini-maker-faire/

Would we be able to post this on the RITlug website under https://ritlug.com/events/? If so, how do you want to be accredited?

jwflory commented 5 years ago

To follow-up, @jrtechs pinged me in Slack. I have no problem with it being reposted. The blog post is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license, so you can use it as you wish under the terms of that license.

Is this already done? We have an events section.
