As a side note, this was partly prompted by a discussion in the OSSN chat about setting up a planet (feed aggregator)
Also, we'd still be posting emails via CampusGroups for people at RIT
General consensus is this is a good idea. PR lifecycle will help with drafting the weekly emails, gets posted to website, sent out via CampusGroups.
Moving back to website issue on the topic
For history: The RITlug website makes an RSS feed of announcements which would posted by an IFTTT hook to a public mailing. Due to RIT's mailing filters though, our emails started getting filtered and we had to start using RIT's proprietary CampusGroups setup. Our emails are getting through, but now people outside RIT can't follow what RITlug is doing, and adding external people to the CampusGroups list is a very manual process we don't want to do continually. We've have an open issue to RITlug/infrastructure#7. Additionally, there have been comments about the ease (or lack thereof) in proof-reading emails, as compared to the nice commenting tools that you get with a GitHub PR. This issue is to discuss drafting announcements via PR and making them accessible via an RSS feed again. Thoughts?
