How to add IMAP/SMTP to an email client? #24

Hey, might be the wrong place to ask, but as anyone figured out how to setup IMAP/SMTP to an email client? I googled it, and it seems that the RIT SSO password is different from the Google Workspace password, but trying to change it just brings you to the RIT portal which brings you to the Google portal to the RIT portal etc. Is there something I'm missing? I just use mailspring which has a gmail authentication mode on my desktop but if I want to use kmail or k-9 on my phone I can't figure it out.

what are you trying to do? like set up your RIT email in an email client such as thunderbird? i think a conversation on the RITLUG discord (link on website: https://ritlug.com) recently mentioned that you may have to manually set up gmails IMAP/SMTP info if it doesnt detect rit.edu or g.rit.edu as being gmail powered domains. i believe you also have to use oauth as the auth mode.

i know at least one RITLUG user uses K9 mail on mobile for RIT email if that helps!

if you find any weird steps or info that you think would be helpful as a page on this wiki, let me know and id be happy to help you make (and merge) a contribution if you haven't done that before

from some notes i had seemingly from a discord conversation on 9/3/24:

Manual configure: Incoming settings: Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: OAuth2.0 username LLL1234@g.rit.edu Auto-detect IMAP namespace next Sign in with google...

Outgoing server settings...: Server: smtp.gmail.com Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: OAuth 2.0 username LLL1234@g.rit.edu next final settings according to your preferences.
