Explore existing translation work #4

One of the things we need to give in the Problem Definition section is a description of existing related projects. Here's what I found on CRAN by searching for the string "translat" on the list of packages page.

The translate and translateR packages provide existing APIs to Google Translate (and Microsoft Translator too in the latter case).

Goslate provides an interface to the Python package of the same name, which in turn provides an interface to the Google Translate webpage. (Scraping the page rather than using the API sounds awful, but I think the idea that that is free, whereas you have to pay to use the API.)

translation.ko contains translations of the R manuals into Korean.

I think it's a good idea to have a play with translate, translateR, and maybe Goslate to see if they are any good. If so, it makes our life easier: "create an interface of Google Translate" on the task list I drafted can become "wrap one of those packages to automate package translation".

I missed off RYoudaoTranslate, which interfaces the Youdao Translation API for translating English into Chinese.

Probably not worth bothering with.

I'll check out the code later, but it seems like translateR is the best option, just by virtue of being able to access Microsoft Translator as well. (Which is free up to 2M characters/month.)
