@cozzyd, I thought this is a bit cleaner. What do you think?

If you are fine I will clean up to last rough edges. With the PR and #43 I probably make my live very hard myself...

@cozzyd, can I merge this? It will introduce some divergence between the two backends (namely that you can select channels for uproot while you can not for pyroot (yet)). Is that okay?

That's ok, the lazycal branch should eventually make it possible to select channels for pyroot in a useful way!
