Uploading bin files #11

Closed Rolzzz closed 1 year ago

Rolzzz commented 1 year ago

Hello there,

Directions are not very clear on what files to upload... I'm up to here image but then what bin file(s) I load etc it get very vague...

Even if I want to try the esp32 download tool the documentation points to google drive rather than here image

happy to help with clarifying documentation process if needed.

Thanks!

RP6conrad commented 1 year ago

You need to install the ES32 download tool (for a Windows system) : https://www.espressif.com/en/support/download/other-tools

If you connect the T5 board over USB, it should be recognized as a “virtual serial port” in Windows. If not, you need to install the correct driver. Then, you have to download the “Flash Bin files” : https://github.com/RP6conrad/ESP-GPS-Logger/tree/master/Flash_Bin_files These flash bin files are only needed the first time the board is flashed. Then you dowload the bin file with the latest sw, here you need to know which kind of e-paper : B73, BN or B74 : https://github.com/RP6conrad/ESP-GPS-Logger/tree/master Choose the latest SW version in the Bin_Files_Bxx folder (now SW5.61). You now have downloaded 4 files, these you needed in your download tool. After choosing these files, and setting the adresses, you can flash the T5 board over usb. Thats it, normally it should work. Let me know if you have problems !!

Greetings, Jan.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for the quick response! Hopefully last silly question, how do I tell the e-paper differences?

is this what I'm looking for?

image

I tried it, but I'm not seeing anything on the screen... my finish screen is blue, not green like your documentation

What hardware do you use? It looks like you have a separate screen of 2.66inch?!? This is what I use (see attached photo). When you receive the unit, it is listed on the bottom.

Hi Simon,

I accidentally ordered this one... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002474854718.html

Tip - do not jump onto aliexpress after too many beers...

So whilst I now wait for the proper one I thought I'd get my head around process... I had hoped it was all compatible, guess not...

Will have to shelve this one for something else once I get familiar with how the esp32 all work.

On a new T5 screen, it is on the left bottom. If you have a totally different screen, chances are high that the screen will not work. It has to compiled with another library. Can you give me more info about the screen used ? I can see for the library.

I will try to find the correct lib for this board. You can try to flash it with a bin file for another screen, everything should word, except the screen. In the mean time, I search for the lib.

It is the wrong type. Perhaps it can work with the right screen driver (Jan might find it) but it will not fit the 3D case I see on the picture since it is for the 2.13" screen: http://www.lilygo.cn/prod_view.aspx?TypeId=50061&Id=1393&FId=t3:50061:3

So depending on your choice forward, either get the right 2.13" epaper screen. I use the GDEM0213B74 display. Or see if you can get this board working, but you need a larger case.

Can you try with this bin file ? Compiled with the GxDEPG0266BN library. This should work, although not the complete screen will be used, as everything now has a layout for 244*122 pixels.

Greetings, Jan.

I am just hoping to use this one to familiarise myself with how all things esp32 (arduino?) work... been into Linux and RaspberryPi's for a number of years and thought this would be a great way to learn these units.

I'm so used to having an ssh console with logs or even just screen dumps rolling over so I can understand whats going on... here it seems I'm just looking at a blinking green light to give me an indication of whats going on... it's all very new to me.

Please don't waste any time on this... I'll just wait for the correct (smaller) version to arrive.

RP6conrad commented 1 year ago

Can you give me your email (personal message over the seabreeze forum) , then I send you the correct bin file. Dont think this is possible over github....

thanks for sending file @RP6conrad but still no joy... sadly without access to a console or log file I'm really powerless to know what is going on with these units... is the process even working, am I doing it correctly at all? No idea... 😢

RP6conrad commented 1 year ago

If the ESP32 is booted, you can try to connect to the “Acces Point” : just see to al the Wifi SSID and search for ESP32AP. Connect with password “password” en go with a browser to IP 192.168.4.1 This works for the first 120s after boot, if no config file is present.

Greetings, Jan.

Yes I have this board and the usb/serial converter... I can see the ESP32AP wifi AP but cannot connect to it. Tried off my computer and iphone but no luck... is there anyway to upload the config.txt file? Do I need to use this method? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jIxAyi6wQ-Z860W548Xg--x6Ld8MBHJh7SCCWhSgnAs/edit?usp=sharing I got it up and going but had no idea what files to upload

tritondm commented 1 year ago

Hi You can Upload the config.txt to your SD Card by copy the File on your Computer. Or if you connected to the AP you can enter the IP 192.168.4.1 in your connected device in the Browser of your choice and there your able to Change your current config. greets

Rolzzz commented 1 year ago

yeah tried all that but no luck... closing case and will try again when I get a supported device.
