odin sphere leifthrasir [BLJM61239] has graphical issues #9150

Quick summary

The game work fine, but have graphical issues on some effects, It exists in OpenGL and Vulkan, and trying any settings doesn't help.

Details

This problem has existed for a long time, it can almost be solved in version 0.0.10 10486, but after playing for a while, the problem will reappear, so it is still not a perfect solution.

wait for the second cut scene in the start menu, you can reproduce this problem. i provide my game save and hope to help fix it.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but I've noticed strange visual bugs like a "ghost" of the player when pausing. It also looks like the black boxes around certain graphics are still present. screenshot-2021_08_31_14_07_49

This seems like an issue that you would normally see in 2D games when using up-scaling but the game natively supports 1080p (the resolution I'm playing at). Log included. RPCS3.log.gz

I think it is a transparent texture rendering related issue, as only textures with transparent have this problem (As I could see). The simplest way to reproduce is checking the logo animation at main menu after pressed any key, or watching the menu trailer (Let game go inactive for seconds on main menu and you could enter it, at this time the rendering issue behaves more obviously)

It seems that no debug option to toggle transparent texture rendering, so I can't prove anything

Yes, the same effect is still present as of 0.0.19-13092.

These same transparency and tiling issues are present in another Vanillaware title "Dragon's Crown" BLJM61041_screenshot_2022_02_17_11_33_30

image It doesn't change, it stays the same and I believe a lot in kd-11 and company that they will fix it right now in RPCS3 both in Odin Sphere and in Dragon's Crown I have a lot of faith friends.

Still happens in OpenGL and Vulkan with or without Strict Rendering on latest version (0.0.22-13648)

Let's get some fresh RSX captures for this one. Some of the artifacts like the broken transparency of the bird sprite should be (hopefully) straightforward.

I would support both games to solve the graphics that has failures in transparency and textures clamping as Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere both in the menu where the cup comes out and the picture as area gate and the lightning bug in the bird and the pictures to go to battle to fight when fighting with enemies hopefully be solved right now or when you can.

I'm not able to reproduce any of the glitched sprites. I need better instructions for this I guess. P.S I'm not talking about the lines, those are caused by something different, just to be clear.

Just wait for a few minutes at the title screen and the scene of the broken transparency of the bird sprite will be played after the first intro.

A friend of mine who knows a lot about emulators told me that it is due both in Dragon's Crown and Odin Sphere for not having the software activated and only with graphics hardware as the PCSX2 emulator has that if the broken bird of lightning goes to the game according to what he told me, I don't know if it is true but that is what he told me.

The new GPU configuration of the visual shader that is not high and I don't know what else is that I can't play much now because I have work to do.

Hi kd-11, have you been able to reproduce any of these issues yet?

I know the texture clamping issue is not easily solvable but it would be awesome to fix these transparencies problems with both Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown. Just to note, in Dragon's Crown, the transparency issues affect spells such as tornadoes but are more apparent in lighter backgrounds as if it is a dark background it is almost imperceivable. I would be happy to assist in helping you reproduce them to fix this longstanding bug.

I was able to reproduce. The render is correct, but has strange inputs from somewhere else that I was not able to find quickly. I had to move to other bug reports for the moment, but I'll return to this one soon.

Just re-tested with 0.0.27-14854 The issue still persists.

I can confirm the exact issue is still there. Just tried today on a Steam Deck, the game is running flawlessly apart for the same exact glitches described by the OP.

This problem is also present with Super Robot Wars OG Masou Kishin 3 Pride of Justice... hope it gets fixed soon. Tried every setting possible and its always present and its really annoying.

Don't know if it's the same issue but there's an alpha/mask bug in the intro when the characters fade out: the transparency around them gets black. fadeout

You can compare with this video from the PS4 version (same visuals), the characters themselves are supposed to fade to black on the fade out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APcDOXjiG7g

I have the same issues, this is from the intro video, but i also have massive block flashing around the shadow Knight as it first appears. It was like seeing how the light gun in duck hunt works. i can provide a link to that if requested.

i have (hopefully) attached 3 pictures showing a sample of this. I have windows 11, on a AMD Radeon 6600, fully updated card, and latest build 28-15344-eee7bf0c Alpha. If i need anything else like a log file, just let me know. It's been a while since i reported bugs here but at least that last one was solved, so i believe in the team here (Ratchet and Clank was my previous issue here BTW)

From what I remember with this one, the sprites were already corrupted in system memory. But this only affects the A channel so I wonder if the game has something configured to ignore the issue, or the corruption doesn't happen on realhw.

that's amazing in of itself! i love vanillaware and am lucky to be able to play them on pc at all, i'm glad someone figured it out nonetheless :)

Has there been any progress on this yet? I don't mind playing it on the Vita3K emulator, but would like to get a crisp 1080 picture instead of the blurriness from the handheld.

I sure hope it will be fixed someday, it's so close to be perfectly emulated! I think the people working on this are doing God's work in making those games playable on PC considering that for some reason Vanillaware always confined their games on consoles.

Same bird box issue is still present. I also noticed the black box around Oswald at the very start of the game but didn't pause in time. image

If it's relevant, I saw this text in orange when the bird appeared:

This scene at the start of Gwendolyn's chapter 4 has a strange visual brought on by the bird box that I'm highlighting because it's possibly a distinct bug. When the bird appears, its box isn't visible like in prior scenes. Instead, the bounds of the box seems to totally obliterate other surrounding blur effects.

This is hard to describe so I made a video. The bug is is noticeable in the skies on the right where the bird first shows up, but it's especially blatant when the bird moves in front of the castle spires.
