A spritesheet needs to be made with support for walking in all four directions, standing idle, running in all four directions (maybe), dying, and being hit (I think this should look kinda like in Minecraft - the player just kinda bumps a little and flashes a tint of red). Follow regular guidelines for spritesheets.
