Game Structure? #3

How is the game going to work? It's already been decided that it'll be a side-scroller. Now, we need to figure out the mechanics and how the game works.

I was thinking of a few different ideas: 1) Each level, you have to fight an enemy or group of enemies and/or find something. Each level is a single un-moving screen and you can't go out of it until you level-up. 2) There are no levels, you just have to journey around and find clues (but sometimes things will attack you) 3) Each level is a quest to find a clue, and something might attack you along the way in each level

Personally, I'm partial to the first one. This is because it is the easiest (it'll be dang hard, but the others will be way harder - especially suggestion 2) and it is fairly unique to our game (most RPGs are like suggestion 2 and sometimes 3).

I think we can integrate suggestion 3 and 1 together, I like the idea of finding a clue and fighting monsters based on your level. We could have it so that you fight monster on the way to a boss or something and then when you get to the boss you can't leave the scene and either while your fighting the boss or before he tells you something that surprises you and you get closer and closer to finding out who the killer is. Or you just fight the monster and when it dies it drops a clue and other items.

Ok, well, I meant that you have to find a clue (maybe that the enemy drops like in Minecraft?) in each level in option 1 as well, but you just have a little screen to move around in, rather than a huge world to walk around in and quest in.

Ok that makes sense, but is each scene going to be a level?

AMPITUP commented 10 years ago

Yes.

So what we have is that the character goes throughout each level and finds clues on the way to discover who killed his father.

AMPITUP commented 10 years ago

Grandfather, but yes, in general.

kunle-lawal commented 10 years ago

Ok, good.

AMPITUP commented 10 years ago

Ok.

AMPITUP commented 10 years ago

So, we have a structure agreed upon, right?

kunle-lawal commented 10 years ago

right

AMPITUP commented 10 years ago

I opened an issue for level one.
