Question from Dr. Shankar to the 'LinkedIn' Group: LinkedIn plans to acquire lynda.com. Discuss the synergies. How well LinkedIn has integrated their earlier acquisitions both from technical (in terms of API access) and business (in terms of financial return) perspectives? I am posing a longer question since you have 3 in your group. There are 3 aspects. Each of you can take one aspect and address it.

Question from 'Amazon Retail' Group to 'LinkedIn' Group: Are there any plans for LinkedIn to venture into other areas of social media.

GiBiT commented 9 years ago

Answer from 'LinkedIn' to 'Dr. Shankar': On the financial side of the acquisition. Lynda.com charges $25.00 a month and $250 per year for basic subscriptions. Premium subscriptions are $375 per year.

LinkedIn's largest ecosystem of people is students. Lynda.com is used for online courses. The two go hand in hand. There have been no official announcements how they plan to use Lynda (except sharing progress straight from Lynda to LinkedIn as Eric has said), but as I have been reading it seems that they are going to be integrating it somehow into the LinkedIn premium to make more users/students go LinkedIn premium.

LinkedIn premium Prices:

Most students that sign up for premium, sign up for the Job Seeker ($29.99/month). Lynda charges for it's basic subscription $25.00/month. Could LinkedIn be planning on offering a student plan for $25.00 a month and have access to Lynda videos? As of right now, there is no information on official plans, there are rumors such as this, but we will have to see.

GiBiT commented 9 years ago

Answer from 'LinkedIn' to 'Amazon Retail': LinkedIn has solidified the recruiting and professionalism social network area. They just acquired Lynda.com, which is an online course education website. They may have a plan to create a section of LinkedIn geared towards making online schooling social, but as of right now, there have been no official announcements about what they plan on doing with Lynda. (except minor things, like sharing progress and such).
