As as school I would like to know why there is a different net price on scorecard then what appears on navigator #1325

The biggest question I am seeing schools discuss right now (other then how to read the gigantic data spreadsheet) is Why is the net price on Scorecard different then what is on Navigator (and other ED sites)?

For example… check out Oxnard College: • https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?120421-Oxnard-Collegehttp://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=oxnard+college&s=all&id=120421#netprc

It seems that colleges submit two net prices to IPEDS: • Group 3: Students who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from the following sources: the federal government, state/local government, or the institution. Do not include students who were awarded aid only from other sources. • Group 4: Students who were awarded any Title IV federal student aid (i.e., report students who were awarded federal grant aid or who were awarded federal work study or federal student loans).

Navigator currently shows the net price for Group 3, while Scorecard shows the net price for Group 4.

I think this is a very important change in methodology… As one school wrote: “The calculation effectively reduces the average grant award substantially at my institution,” I think with a change like this it is important to explain to schools how this is different.

Possible Next Steps: • Explain the changes in the data dictionary on Scorecard • Consider changing College Navigator to Group 4 students
