Please clarify license (GPL - 2.0, 3.0, or later?) #36

The README just mentions GPL, but omits any specific version thereof.

Preferably, also a copy of the license is added to the repository (when it is name LICENSE (.txt) or COPYING, it is also automatically picked up by Github).
