I worked on a prototype of the new website. Live version at http://rstatsum.gitlab.io/website/ and source code at https://gitlab.com/RstatsUM/website/. @maczokni and @HeatherARobinson we can talk on the next meeting.

More info

@HeatherARobinson send me some info by email that I would like to comment here.

We inherited the Github repository so a lot of it is the way it is just because we haven’t reviewed it, and maybe it can be improved.

My suggestion involves using GitLab instead of GitHub mainly because we can run R to create the website on GitLab. :-)

Although we managed to publish the RUM repository to a GitHub Pages, nothing has been done to develop this and it looks rather sad http://rumgroup.github.io/Home/. This could be a friendlier entrance to the repository for people not familiar with Github if we can improve it.

You can edit files using the GitLab web interface as well.

It would be good to add the RUM and R Consortium logos to the GitHub Pages via html, and links to the Yammer group, Research IT, ManchesterRMeetup and listserv signup.

I didn't added the R Consortium logo yet but it should be a 20 minutes or less job.

The GitHub Pages home file does not seem to update with the repository automatically, it has been out of date since June and I can’t work out why.

This repository has two branches, master and gh-pages. When GitHub first launch GitHub Pages, you have to use gh-pages to have your website online. Now you can pick your branch of choice. But if you have two branches, the master will be the one visible by default.

We could use a space to bring teaching materials together. Blackboard is one possibility.

I never use Blakboard.

We could use some forum/discussion capabilities to post announcements etc and a list of upcoming courses.

We need to be careful to not end up with more communication channels that we need.

Hi, is it possible to disable the gitpage for now until we can get it up to date? For example, it currently lists Marco as due to speak this September, that is the title of an old talk that he gave. Also we still do not have updated information on dates from the home page. We can definitely discuss at the next meeting, thanks for looking through the current page.

Yes.

I probably typed something wrong on the date.

Also we still do not have updated information on dates from the home page.

Can you clarify that?

I forgot to mention that if people liked it we can write something for https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/product/technical-writing/community-writers/ and earn up to US$ 200 which we can use for a small party.

Hi, like you say it is probably just a matter of calling the information from the master branch- we seem to have meetings up to May, then not June, July or August.
