EDL Import and Export Feature #8

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
EDL (Edit decision list) is the most and ancient form of getting footage from
and to other Editing Applications. EDL import and export feature is available
in all the editing application incl cinelerra(import & export), Blender
(import). It would be very helpful if this feature be included in Flowblade.
I could edit and deliver EDL for Autodesk Smoke or other Color grading apps
users for Advanced Color Grading / VFX works. Please consider this request.

Looked into this and it seems that there are many different EDL formats of
which the most common is CMX3600.

I'm however unable to find specification for that format and can't work without
one.

If someone needs EDL import/export in some other format, please open an issue
with that format named in it and provide a specification for it, and we'll look
into it.

There's an library for dealing with EDL. Maybe this may help you. And its based
on CMX3600 Standard.

And here how Blender imports EDL into its sequencer. I don't know on which
standard it supports, but it successfully imported CMX3600 style EDL.

Okay, thank you.

These definitely make coding the feature feasible. I'm marking this accepted
now, but keeping it on low priority.

Thank you for accepting this feature. It makes flowblade useful for serious
editing projects.

There is a kdenlive xml to edl convertor. Maybe this may help you.

CMX3600 is quite universal, also RED (for longer names of files its nice)

This is going WontFix. Spend some time on this and got it working some times on
Blender, but other times it failed in ways that I could only explain as Blender
EDL import being buggy.

Because I have no other export target available I'm closing this. I'm keeping
the code and will re-examine this if I get another EDL export target working on
my system.

I can help test the edl function in Davinci Resolve and Lightworks(Import
function). I can also send some example edls for reference if that helps.

Generally the edl import function is a bit messy even in commercial apps.

panzbox, thanks.

I'll give this another try on autumn after I've done the Gtk3 port and I'll
mail you if you're still at that time available to do some testing.
