just an idea, maybe hould be done otherwise

master should be for deployment (PDF, EPUB, ODT, MARKDOWN, ...) as J. decided to do that first
protected branch (no merge to master) called "editing" should be for changes and that might be deployed to master
another protected branch called "buildsystem" can hold script or Makefile etc. for conversion from source format to target format
