There has been a request for a cookie opt-out. I did some research a while ago and I thought I was OK with having just a notification banner, but perhaps that's not enough.

Do some more research and figure out what exactly is required by law.

The general consensus is to provide a choice of opting out of analytics and marketing related cookies. Functional ones are still ok as long as you let the user know.

How about cookies placed by Google Ads? I can see why people want to opt out of Analytics, but then I'd also see the same person not wanting any ad cookies. As much as I dislike ads too, they're needed to pay for bills on my side. I can build an analytics opt-out easily, so now I'm just left with the ads question. I don't want to make it too easy for people to opt out of ads. I feel like people with ad-blockers generally would not be open to clicking on ads anyways, perhaps people who opt out of ads are people who fall in the same category.

Doesn't Google Ads have a non-personalisation option? That should turn off their cookies.

I'll check those out soon, thanks! I didn't know Google Ads had that option, I will again look at that and ad an option for that. Analytics opt out and non-personal ads would pretty much remove all cookies from the site that are currently placed.

I've added two new options for users. One to disable cookie tracking with Google Analytics (which I think renders it useless but that's up to Google to fix), the other is to disable personalized ads for Google Adsense. These two alone should curb all cookie usage on the website, unless there's something I don't know about. Such as Cloudflare etc. I've also added another link to the Cookie Policy so users can easily disable the remaining cookies should they require.

I feel this makes the site a bit more compliant and offers the user a choice. For anything else, I think it's up to the user to educate themselves and setup their browser properly for their wishes. If the law agrees with this I don't know.

This ticket will remain open as I want to keep an open dialogue about this issue. Perhaps I'll have to make it more 'in your face' about the cookie options, such as changing the prompt that new users get when they visit the site.
