Metadata editor doesn't work

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. I create an ePub with Calibre, where there are already some metadata.
2. In the process of editing the ePub doc with sigil, the metadata are lost. I 
don't know exactly when.
3. I try to edit metadata with sigil but it doesn't really work.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

- The author name is in the metadata apparently, but it doesn't show when you 
read the book in a device.
- The language of the book can't be changed. I change it from English to 
Spanish, I save it and next time I open the metadata, it has been changed to 
English again.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

0.4.903

Editing metadata does work.  If you are still able to reproduce this in 0.5.3, 
then please upload an example epub (you can delete most of the book since its 
just the metadata that's of interest) and what steps to follow.
