DNS hosting

Category: run Attributes/tags: monitored, redundant

Domains:

  1. perl6.org
  2. rakudo.org
  3. moarvm.org

Optional: p6c.org

Next steps

Registrar and Owners don’t need to be changed.

  1. New DNS hosting (separated from the Registrar)
  2. Transfer the zones or quickly add the entries manually to the new DNS hosting.
  3. Ask the domain owner to change to the new DNS servers at there registrars website

Proposed solution

Use a combination of free dns services to get servers in North America, Europe and Asia. Master server to change the DNS entries: https://www.metanet.ch/email-domains/dns-hosting Slaves:

Admins

If you have additional location preferences, please add them as a comment.

If someone has another free or sponsored services which could be recommended, please let me know.

In the long term, an organization, not single persons should imo own all relevant domains.

As part of asking around for infrastructure sponsoring I've approached Cloudflare. They would be able to host DNS as well. So this currently my preferred solution, yet they haven't yet agreed on the sponsoring yet.

Additionally I like to put DNS zone information into a github repo using https://stackexchange.github.io/dnscontrol/ and treat DNS like code. What do you think?

Cloudflare like to support us. So I start preparing the DNS stuff. I will try to contact Dan Wright about the perl6.org. @timo or @lizmat did you have contact with him? Who is able to assist with rakudo.org, moarvm.org and p6c.org? First I have to "copy" the information from the current zones, after testing we can go ahead and switch the nameservers.

@rba rakudo.org and moarvm.org I can change nameservers for.

I strongly oppose using Cloudflare for anything. It provides no reasonable benefits for the privacy and security implications it brings.
