Normal behavior is when tamed animals are hurt they'll find a viable animal sleeping spot to rest in to allow a pawn to treat its injuries. However, when sleeping spots are on another z-level from the animal it behaves as if there was no sleeping spots, not laying down to rest until it becomes incapacitated or needs to sleep.
It's a low priority issue since you just can manually place a sleeping spot next to the animal and it'll lay down, but it would be convenient if animals searched all levels for viable sleeping spots.
