Maybe there is a way to avoid that cheese in this case, maybe I can fix it with a condition, although I don't know if I should since the combat may be really difficult (even more so if the difficulty is increased with a mod).
Disabling player actions can cause bugs if timers don't work correctly (sometimes BG does that unfortunately).
For the item you recommend, what type of artifact should it be? I might add it for my next mod.
So I am progressing through the mod and quest. Also was able to build the first three items so far. \o/
In the fight in the Troll Mound, we can cheese the fight by attacking the enemy early on BEFORE the final speech is triggered. There is some delay in between where the player can do actions.
I started with the ettin as main enemy. The other enemies did not turn hostile while my party whacked down the ettin - there was a small delay in the speech, so I could kill the ettin, and then the naga mage, then most others (save for the hasted main guy and another guy, ogre or so). I could leave the Troll mound which actually split up the two last remaining enemies.
Soon I will try to see how to defeat these two remaining ones. Then I managed to cheese the whole fight. \o/
(I tried it before fighting all of them at the same time but that did not work well. In particular the hasted guy is annoying - always going after Dusk and making him run away like a little girl. :P)
I believe this was not your intention though that players can cheese this.
Perhaps the dialogue should continue, disallowing all user actions. Or, perhaps more realistically, if one of the monsters is attacked, ALL the others turn hostile, perhaps triggering the last speech part or so (I actually managed to trigger the first speech part three times or so, every time I talk to the enemy main guy after picking up one of the enemies. I think you can probably test this in a dry run, seeing how to kill the enemies during the speech or in between. I started it by placing summonables to the left side, which is why I picked the ettin first.)
Also a small idea for a new idea may be glitterdust of confusion or something. Something that is a bit like glitterdust and causes percentage failure for some rounds on enemy mages, no save but low percentage failure, say, 15% or something like that. Could be a limited item use, say 6 uses or so. Just something that is useful but not too powerful. Some of the items are quite powerful, like the stone bracers - steelskin AND AC+2 makes good bracers kind of obsolete. :)
