Battery drain on iOS & iPadOS #4165

Hello.

First of all - thank you for this app.

I have a 2nd gen iPhone SE running iOS 17.1.2 & a 6th gen iPad running iPadOS 17.1.2. Both devices are running the latest version of NNW - 6.1.4 & both experience battery drain with NNW installed.

The battery drain is most significant on the iPad. I'll charge it to 100% only to have it drop to 90% within 2 or 3 days. Before the app, the iPad would drain to 90% after a week or more of normal use. On the iPhone, it would drop to 50% after 4 to 5 days on normal use. Now, it's 2 days.

Steps taken to troubleshoot - uninstalling NNW, installing another rss reader app, importing my OPML file, & seeing my battery drain issue disappear.

If you open your Settings app, then go to Battery settings, then scroll down to Battery Usage By App, then tap Last 10 Days — is NetNewsWire on top? What percentage does it show?

If you then tap on NetNewsWire to show its activity, what does it say? (For instance, mine says “5h screen - 3m backgd”)

Hello & thank you for the reply.

I uninstalled the other rss reader app, re-installed/reconfigured NWW, & recharging my phone to 100% to answer your questions.

Ok, it's been over 24 hours trying to re-create the issue, & the issue seems to be resolved. My iPad's battery is still at 100% after using NNW normally, & my iPhone's battery usage is back to normal.

I did force restart both devices after uninstalling the previous rss reader & before re-installing NNW. Maybe that was the issue?

Either way all is well.

Thank you again for the app. Trying to find a replacement was...not fun. NNW is so much better than everything else out there.
