When using the apple remote with OpenPHT 1.7.1 on osx 10.12.2 the apple remote doesn't appear to be intercepted correctly after the monitor has been allowed to turn off due to lack of activity. Just after launching OPHT this does not occur, so that some commands are passed through to the operating system, including when using the up and down buttons on the remote the volume on the machine is changed. And itunes launches (i am not sure what button on the remote causes this)
