Running on Ubuntu Yakkety (16.10) and the screen flickers all the time, and after about a minute OpenPHT eventually stops responding and crashes. Seems to be the same issue that was reported here and is apparently due to the X modesetting driver. However, using UXA has rather large performance implications, so it is not a viable solution for me.
Kodi works fine on the same machine, but I prefer the look and feel (and ease of setup) of OpenPHT. Maybe there's just some fixes in Kodi that need to be pulled in? Let me know if debug logs would help.
