I don't know a whole lot about how codecs work and whatnot, but I believe there might be the concept of a frame or anchor point where the audio and video are known to be in sync and it starts the video, and adds the audio in whatever the next sync point is to ensure that there is no drift.
Or at least that's my theory...
I doubt that, because it doesn't matter at which frame you pause, after resume there's always a split second of silence. And other players I've tried doesn't have this issue.
On video play start, audio is present at once, but if you pause and then play, audio starts only after a half of a second or so. It's a bit annoying when you pause in a middle of a word and then play, the word is lost, because when the audio starts playing, it's already another word is spoken :) Hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
