Keithinhanoi:

Apologies for posting this here and also the main PerMa comments thread, but it seemed appropriate in order to get the news out on this:

For anyone using PerMa and Audio Overhaul for Skyrim (AOS), I'm afraid I have some bad news.

A number of PerMa + AOS users have reported "stuck" looping magic sounds, and after some investigation into the reasons why, I discovered that this is because PerMa uses its own versions of some "vanilla" magic effects (spells, scrolls, and enchantments), but the sounds they are set up to use are for the most part the same as the original vanilla sounds, and being copies - are untouched by AOS.

The problems with the looping sounds come out of PerMa's magic effects (spells, scrolls, and enchantments) referring to vanilla sounds that AOS has changed. The changes AOS makes to the magic effects / spells only work if everything is changed as intended by AOS, but with PerMa's versions of spells, the changes made by AOS are only partially made, which will lead to sounds not working as expected.

It is important to note that these problems are not the "fault" of either PerMa or AOS. AOS was built to make modifications to existing vanilla sounds, but cannot take account for all types of sounds added by other mods. Similarly, PerMa was built with the assumption that vanilla sounds would be used and did not take account for any sound overhaul mods.

In order to make a compatibility patch, a plugin would have to be made which applies all of AOS' changes to PerMa's relevant magic effects found in the PerkusMaximumus_Master.esp plugin. Such a patch would have to be loaded and active when re-building the PatchusMaximum.esp plugin with the patcher. Since I've been helping out with compatibility patches for AOS since early last year, I am going to attempt to make a PerMa + AOS compatibility patch, but it's going to take a while because it's quite a bit more complex than your typical compatibility patch.

I will come back and post here when there's any more news about this (or, hopefully when I've completed a patch! )

Corrected in PerMa 1.2

What about the mod needs support --- Single record (Weapon -> MGRKeening, "Keening" ) in PaMa WAFR patch needs adjusted audio from AoS.

A very minor request that I patched myself, but it is a popular mod that I'm sure others would appreciate. Hardest part is making the extra question in PaMa installer asking if AoS is installed.
