I’m not quite sure how it should look instead, but I don’t like the way Latest Pastes has “[Link]” on the right side. I was reading pastes – looking at the name, date, and code, all on the left. Then I wondered how to see the paste’s page. I wanted to click something I had just looked at, but none of them looked like a link. I saw the “more…” link on a few pastes, but wasn’t sure if that would just expand the paste inline. Then I saw the “[Link]” on the right side. I resisted clicking it, thinking “surely there’s a link on the left side”. I think I expected the link to be on the left side because many other sides have permalinks there, too. Finally I, slightly resentfully, moved the mouse to the right side of my 1280-pixel-wide window and clicked “[Link]”, and got to the page I wanted.
If the pastes had titles, the titles would be obvious choices to be the link, but the pastes don’t have titles. Stack Overflow makes comment timestamps be links – maybe the date of the paste should be a link. Or maybe the whole header of poster plus date should be a link. Or maybe “[Link]” should be on the left, as part of that header. Whatever the solution, I don’t think having “[Link]” on the right side works.
Totally agreed. This has been silly since the very beginning, I've just been too lazy to fix it. Sometimes you need people to say "Dude, what the hell?" before you start caring. :p
