Searchable menu #56

Every modern DE's/OS's menu is filterable. It would be nice to have that in the razor menu.

free2malloc commented 12 years ago

I can appreciate that this may be desirable for some people, but consider the absence of clutter in the Razor menu a feature. But as a module or at least a feature which can be quickly disabled via the configuration tool would probably be acceptable to zealots like myself.

How about two different plugins for menu? One "simple-menu" and one "advanced-menu"? The latter being more kde-like.

free2malloc commented 12 years ago

Sure, if you like. At this point I would be happy with the current menu, which I would say compares with that of XFCE.

Menu search would be nice, but do it need to be in the actual menu?

The actual "start menu" should be as clean as possible. Perhaps a plugin or an extra, more advanced menu right next to the current menu. Like in the old gnome interface where there was more then one menu which was much easier to learn.

jleclanche commented 12 years ago

I think it might be a better idea to have two separate menus, one of them being searchable (and a lot more complex, I was thinking kde/w7 style).

falde commented 12 years ago

Or perhaps a submenu?

amoskvin commented 12 years ago

The runner (Alt+F2) is basically a searchable menu (but without the menu part :)

jleclanche commented 12 years ago

Disagreed, they have very different purposes. The runner should have a history, and be able to launch command-line (non-.desktop) operations. The menu may be able to integrate with recent files, etc.
