First draft for a PNAS cover letter. #48

Closed khinsen closed 6 years ago

pdebuyl commented 7 years ago

It might be interesting to mention the fact that

the National Science Foundation has asked the National Academies to explore the issues of reproducibility and replication in scientific and engineering research

seen here via R. D. Peng

pdebuyl commented 7 years ago

of course I realize now that I am aware of it via your retweet, irony :-)

khinsen commented 7 years ago

@pdebuyl Thanks for the pointer! As you may have guessed, I had actually written the draft before seeing R.D. Peng's tweet.

I have added a somewhat vague reference at the end of the draft, but perhaps someone with a better knowledge of NAS activities in this domain could improve on it.

rougier commented 7 years ago

Thanks @khinsen. Overall I think the letter may be too centered on the journal itself instead of being more broadly centred on sustainable computational science. I'm not sure if I'm clear and I'm not sure either what to change... I've added small suggestions.

khinsen commented 7 years ago

I have added a reference to sustainability in two places - this is indeed important, given that it's the first word of the title!

karthik commented 7 years ago

Marcia McNutt and I served on a panel on reproducibility for an event that she organized the last two years. I could also approach her if other venues into PNAS don't pan out.

rougier commented 7 years ago

What do we do know ? @karthik or @ctb send the letter + raft or is it better if it is @khinsen or me ?

ctb commented 7 years ago

Hi folks, on it - I am happy to communicate the letter and draft. Only change I would suggest is "Dear PNAS editorial board". Also, shall we have @khinsen "sign" it at the bottom, e.g.

Signed, Konrad Hinsen, for the authors

?

See https://github.com/khinsen/ReScience-article-2/pull/2 for changes.

And the master branch draft.pdf is the right draft to send along?

rougier commented 7 years ago

Yes, I think the current master draft is the right one. Alternatively, can also use the arXiv one.

rougier commented 6 years ago

@khinsen do you take care of making the submission to PNAS?

khinsen commented 6 years ago

I thought @ctb was doing it?

rougier commented 6 years ago

Oh, you're right. @ctb, can you send the letter+draft next week ?

ctb commented 6 years ago

yep.

rougier commented 6 years ago

@ctb Did you send the letter?

ctb commented 6 years ago

Monday.

rougier commented 6 years ago

Do you mean you sent it last Monday or you'll do it today?

rougier commented 6 years ago

@ctb Any update ?

khinsen commented 6 years ago

@ctb I am also a bit at a loss as to the meaning of "Monday"!

ctb commented 6 years ago

Hi, sorry for the confusion(s). It's been sent to Rich and I'll let you know when I hear back!

best, --titus

khinsen commented 6 years ago

@ctb Great, thanks a lot!
