As enhancement for SmartTemplates and to be more decriptive about its required license, it has been pointed out that the current license (CC 4.0 ND) doesn't exactly fit the label of open source - see discussions over at #250 .
Therefore I will endeavor to find a suitable license to describe and ensure the future viability of the project. If successful I might apply same to other Add-ons of mine.
Requirements:
If possible, keep 100% of source code openly accessible and readable, as before
allow sharing and reusing of the code
allow code contributions and discussion of bugs / features (preferable staying here on Github)
allow the users to modify the code to suit their own need for personal use
allow me keeping the project monetized by funding through "freemium" licenses on thunderbird.net
fair use clauses: make sure people do not use the source code to publish a free (or differently priced) version on the same platform. To exactly define this will be the one of the complexities of the new license
phasing out old code: have am moving window (e.g. 2 years ) that allows fixing legacy code for older versions of Thunderbird (at the moment I backport to version that supports back to ESR91, so anything before that should be fair game. once Thunderbird 115 is deployed to the majority of users, I intend to increase the minimal version to ESR102)
the previous license must allow changing over to the new licensing model
