Hello and thank you for adding Mangaplus! I was waiting for it for a long time. I just wanted to confirm something. I set the quality to “high” and the results are JPEG images. The quality doesn’t seem that good, probably because JPEG is a lossy format and everything. But I see around a lot of chapters ripped from Mangaplus with PNG images; how is it possible? Is JPEG a choice of yours or are the images already in JPEG anyway? I don’t understand why some people manage to rip the chapters in PNG with a slightly higher quality too. If you can choice, can you allow saving the images in PNG instead?

Unfortunately no, it's not a program’s choice, they returned that format even with “high” param set in their API calls, since I think it's what they display on the website to save resources. Are you sure that those people are getting the images from Mangaplus and not from any other source?

I don’t know. Mangaplus has a “twin”, that is Viz (https://www.viz.com/). It’s a USA-only service (you can easily access the chapters with a proxy), but as far as I know, it’s just impossible to download from it. Maybe someone found a way to download from it and grab those PNG file. I was thinking of asking you for supporting it a few months ago, but now that there’s Mangaplus I though there would be no need anymore. I didn’t think that Mangaplus would have such low quality images, even when “high” is set. Do you think it’s likely that they’re downloading from Viz? Is it even a possible thing?

EDIT: Viz’s site is a mess. When I say that it’s Mangaplus' twin, I mean with series like this: https://www.viz.com/shonenjump/chapters/one-piece

I don’t know any tool that can download from Viz, or at least none of the known ones xD However I checked better the online images of Mangaplus and the downloaded ones, I confirm that they seems identical to me:

If you zoom on the “New series” logo you can view the “pixelization” around the text (typical of JPEG compression) even from the online version of the page, so I really think that images on their server are already JPEG compressed, it’s not just an issue of their API

Mangaplus' images have that quality. Manga Downloader is downloading exactly the ones the site offers. png files are from Viz most likely. Viz descrambles the images like this:

Probably someone wrote a descrambler and set the output to png in order not to lose too much quality. Honestly, I tried many times to figure out how to descramble them, but it’s way too complicated and they probably use a seed for a random function, because I don’t see any pattern at all in the center. Anyway, Viz has higher quality images and probably the png are from there; I don’t think they can be from Mangaplus, unless someone just screenshots the images and saves them in png (it can be this too).
