For Python 2.7.2.3 :
the link to the GDAL standard plugin 
http://pythonxy.googlecode.com/files/gdal-1.9.0.1_py27.exe
is faulty.
The correct file name seems to be:
http://pythonxy.googlecode.com/files/gdal-1.9.0_py27.exe
