Your concern is unwarranted. While I also believe this to be an overreaction its not up to you to decide over forks of open source software or its morality. If there aren't enough people that support this - why bother. If there are enough people to support this then this alone is reason and justification enough for a fork. It's rather concerning to advocate against the very spirit of open source - everyone can use it as they like (broadly said).
Godot's leads have thrown off many people over the years and the recent escalation has once again shown that discussion is hard to have when even Platin backers are not only blocked on social media but also blocked entirely from using the engine. (Via Github block.)
Hiding personal beliefs and ideologies and justifying blocking of any form of criticism in the name of ethics is also an odd take.
I will continue supporting Godot but also keep an eye on this fork.
Not a gamedev, just a literal nobody with an opinion.
This says a lot about your character, how you operate, and how you treat people in general. This is a prime example of gaslighting. How do you think any of the blocked individuals who have built their entire livelihood around Godot could work with them when most of them are having their access revoked? And yet, you're the one who wants to be civil and 'play nice'?
The main fork, Godot, is an open-source engine. Therefore people will make forks out of it whenever and wherever they feel like it and there are different forks of that original project way before this Redot fork existed.
Asking to remove it kills the point of the definition of what "open-source" is and people are justified to fork Godot for different reasons and needs. Ethics wise, this is also unethical to just remove a fork because as said before, it kills the definition of what the open-source project is. Removing it would just make it worse especially for an open-source community.
Exploiting is a bit of a stretch since other coders can improve on the initial code of the project. The drama of Godot, even before this current situation happened, also had other people's work be revoked such as engine improvements. What can that other person do? Simply fork it and add that improved work from there hence why other's people forks are justified.
Even if this fork is removed or hasn't had any progress made, one or two more will spring out of the repository, either from Godot or Redot. and there's nothing much that you and I can do about it.
Both of these engines would go in their separate ways and I'm looking forward to which direction they will take.
The codebase is still MIT open source. There is no reason why changes made here could not also be contributed back to Godot.
This PR is obviously not serious. Closing.
Why is there so many haters tho?
Why is there so many haters tho?
People are upset. It's understandable. Let them be. I just hope with time they realise how rare the success like Godot is and that it is wiser and beneficial to join efforts, and not splinter into factions. One can hope.

There is no reason why Redot cannot contribute back to Godot. this is how The Mirror did their work too.
There are so many open PR's that have not been merged into Godot that would be great additions. Redot will be able to leverage those.
Even so, "original" developers exploit MIT license just to slow down the engine development to sell their services. Want optimized mobile builds? Pay to Ramatak. Want asset store? Get vendor-locked on the Mirror platform. Want console ports? Well, our contributors support DirectX backend for free so Juan Linietsky can sell his Xbox console exports. you can easily google and see that "leaders" are corrupt with financial interests. So this fork has much more sense than you think. It's not guided by people who don't make games but sale services for the engine.
I hope this becomes a 'Betterbird' situation like with Thunderbird. Where some features/commits/what have you that are mostly ready get cleaned up and put in the main repo. Best of luck to the Redot project!
As a member of the game development community, I'm concerned about the recent fork of Godot Engine called 'Redot Engine.'
While open-source software allows for forks, this particular project seems to be exploiting the hard work and goodwill of the Godot community for personal gain.
It's disappointing to see such opportunistic behavior in our collaborative open-source ecosystem.
I believe it's important to support ethical development practices and the original Godot Engine project, which has consistently provided a free and open platform for game creators.
I encourage fellow developers to consider the broader impact of their actions on our community and to continue supporting projects that prioritize collective benefit over individual profit.
