A lot of errors when FanControl start after a reboot #1212

After updating to V133

cannot Save/Load config... and it's missing sensors, controls and devices on the actual config >>>> V133

When I try to reload the pippo3 or any other saved config (because pippo4 got too much garbled rebooting) I obtain this error

Nowhere to see the Motherboard sensors... what happens now ?

I'll try to reinstall the previous version and report back


Instead of the previous version, I installed the plugin for HW64. HW64 was already running in my system background.

Now that I added devices and sensors I reconfigured the FanControl UI to take them in account.

I get errors as before + FanControl stops in its tracks, and the fans go maxed.

Kill & restart.... errors ... errors ... errors recursively, till it stops doing that and starts to work. A few minutes or a few hours later it stops again.

I just discovered that, but it's not possible, :-D the Dll is properly located and the sensor are loaded !

It seems to me there are references to a User/Remi that I don't have on my PC, but I also see some other unmanaged errors.

Maybe that's the reason it gets stuck every now and then !!!

One day passed after deleting all the Temp\PowerToys-related folders/settings.

I'm doing beta-test also for a new feature there

  • there was some absurd PT behaviors - suddenly more or less in the same time it happened to FanControl - They suggested me to delete all temp's settings -no idea if there is a relation. I thought it has a value to mention here.

I report back: 1) The errors at startup are not appearing anymore. Hurrà ! > one out 2) FanControl still "pause" now and there and all fans go maxed until it unlocks itself after 160-350 seconds. ( I can check that un Afterburner graphs I use to control my system behaviors) - OUCH

In this pic it took around 10 mins to get un-stuck ( Dark blue graphs and yellows indication >For CPU Pump/Fan & Temp) :-D graph say 548 = 5th graph 48° > graphs compression trick

3) still something strange on UI: I HIDE most of the HW64 speed sensors in favor of FC's ones that have terser names. After reboot they re-appear, even if I save Pippo4 immediately after hiding them.

Example of full Stuck after resuming from Sleep/Hibernate.

No way to make it react from TaskBar Icon. You have to kill and then start it again.

Well, yes it's the same graphs trick: Zero Gpu starts from 3000, and Zero CPU starts at 0000 GPU-Fan2 is at 850rpm instead of zero Cpu-Fan is 1890 instead of 780-800

It's NOISY !!!!!

First, update to V134.

Seems like you saved a config with some HWInfo sensors in it, but you don't have HWInfo running when back from sleep, so it can't restore the config.

Using the HWInfo plugin requires some gymnastics to have it running alongside fancontrol all the time.

It also seems like you exported everything from HWInfo. If you really need something specific from HWInfo, export just that. Otherwise, you don't need the plugin. Would simplify the situation a lot.

ok, received.

I update now ( it didnt found an updater yesterday - no reAsons given) I stop the plugin ( I used it to recover missing sensors) I reload settings ( from Pippo3 or Pippo4 )

HW64 is always running in the background and it's the first to be launched during boot. That's the reason I can see and show what happens even after sleep or reboot. For all the other utilities I have forced a delay of at least 3 seconds

Reporting back from actions

It didn't want to update, so I killed it. Downloaded the v134 Overwrote the v133 Restarted

Everything is now nominal, it even loaded Pippo4 without being asked

Hmmm, something strange, no idea if it was FanControl related, so I checked the temp values. In the last 2 hours there are no sensor spikes, and the readings are mostly consistent in the 1°C range.

Every 15-20 minutes I have an event >where the fans act funny for a few seconds:

Note: this thread's content issues are all brand new. Nothing strange in V112 and before

Updated few minutes ago to V115, While I was checking the UI setting if everything was nominal... ...GOTCHA... I can tell you what happens but not why it happens.

I heard the noisy CPUFan ramping up. My eyes pointed to the curve just to catch a whooping 69° spike on the TDIE. It was a sensor jump from 53° to 61>64>69 then back to normal. 17° spike!! and that up-down took less than 2 seconds.

I know about hysteresis by time and by measures, so I had already set the curve to take that into the account. Sensors spikes I had already witnessed for months, some foul sensor I suppose... but in a 4-6° range only. Here's my curve, as it was set.

Now I've modified 7 seconds to 10" and 4° to 5°, but that is still not enough to absorb the spikes.

Being that curve unchanged from V113, I ask now how to modify it to better absorb that huge spikes. I don't know if, from V113 on, FC is more sensible. Please share what you think of what's happening.

It's an AIO-cooled system, I don't need so much reactivity. There is the thermal inertia of 1lt of water to compensate for slower times.

For the original problem of having missing sensors at reboot, there was a bug I fixed in V135. As for the other stuff, seems like you are having difficulties configuring your curves.

I noticed you fans speed sensors are not matched to any controls. I would suggest running through the assisted setup once to get all your start/stop % set and everything.

2( starting issue is still an issue on V115 > only when PC wakes up from Sleep/Hibernate

3( I dont get what you means

4( the "curve" and "spike" is not a real issue

5( the Pump getting shut down even for a few seconds is an issue!

While the process was ongoing I received this message

After that, the fans&pump started to go down to zero and ramp-up to the top several times.

At the end of that process ... It stopped and gave out this message

What that does tell me, is that fan control is incompatible to control any of the non-paired fans. That make senses with all your previous problems. The hidden cards can't be control. Unhiding them won't help you in that situation.

Make sure in your BIOS they have no "smart" or automatic control enabled in there.

Well we improved by 2 fans. Only header 6 is missing now right? Maybe try and switch it to PWM. Otherwise, does it respond at all from the MSI software to % changes?

Fan #6, as the other fan that were "smarted"... ...was responding, and still responds quite well to FC controls. Alas is a poor DC fan :-(

I don't use other software. When I switched to FC I was so happy !!!!!!! Previously I was using BIOS, and that is not the easiest way to setup fans for a "SILENT" Pc.

Only in V115 they get hidden, it was not previously, so I'm a little lost :-D

( but I don't care too much, provided the PC may not be heard running under normal activity )

My UPS says that Pc + 65" & 32" monitors = 130-148Watts under Browsing-Youtube-World&Excel. That said, the fan should run at the minimum possible, and with that CPU should never reach 60°C TotAverageCores.

If I edit videos or play games that's a different story :-D

That only applies at startup. But generally 15 seconds is enough.

Fantastic to have back my Silent PC.... ... no more spikes ... but randomly this message appears after a restart from Hybernate/Sleep

Vice versa, some other restarts get an error but all the controls are happily shown in the background... And perfectly working, no need to kill&restart.
