COMPLETELY AUTOMATED UPDATES or option to NEVER be prompted again. #1853

Closed mirddes closed 1 year ago

mirddes commented 1 year ago

i dont want to be told about updates, i just want to always have the latest version, and if thats not possible i would like to NEVER be told about another update. let me open fancontrol to find out about updates, BUT GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY STARTUP SEQUENCE... fucking annoying having to even think about dismissing the dialog.

amazing software,. epic respect.

just give me automagic updates or be quiet.

mirddes commented 1 year ago

this time i didnt think about it, i just hit alt+F4. turns out that closes it completely instead of closing it to the taskbar. thats probably a bug.

Rem0o commented 1 year ago

I'm thinking about a few options. One would be to have a red dot or something with an icon telling you there's an update available, without the automatic pop-up. Else just a plain checkbox to stop checking, or a combination of the two.

Update on start-up would be great, and for safety maybe an alert if a fan is at 0 RPM as I'm running into that issue right now. It's like I need another app to alert me my CPU is overheating.

mirddes commented 1 year ago

oh man, that would also be a really good feature.

-- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 (General Assembly resolution 217 A http://www.un.org/en/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/217(III)) as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected and it has been translated into over 500 languages. http://www.ohchr.org/EN/UDHR/Pages/SearchByLang.aspx

ideally it will "take longer to start" occasional, because it seamlessly installed an update, because i ticked a box "ages ago"

Just another vote for a subtle change to the tray icon; your red dot idea is perfect. Popping up during startup really is quite disruptive.

Rem0o commented 1 year ago

This is gonna be it for now.

The checkbox will make it so you don't get a prompt at startup. It will still check in the background, and show the top right icon accordingly.

It will default as it was before (checked), so you have to opt out. The setting will be saved in the CACHE file, so it's not config specific.

Didn't touched the tray icon just yet, as I didn't find an elegant way to overlay the temperature display without blocking the actual information it provides.
