Fresh Install - Fanspeed 40% wont move the fans.. 41% does #2272

Hi, I have recently installed this software as I've swapped MOBO's and CPU and the old mobo software wont work with this new setup (obv).

I have an AIO corsair I use to manage the PSU and the CPU fans etc but I have 5 additional case fans I'm trying to manage.

Non- of the case fans will begin to spin up unless they are over 40%. I admit I am new to this software but it doesn't seem to want to spin up at any lower setting. Because these are high speed noctuas - its too noisy to sit at 40%+ when idling - has anyone seen this issue before and resolved it?

For a given control, try these steps:

Untick force apply, you don't need it.

This will detect the threshold automatically. Will probably confirm your 40%. Fans need a minimum voltage/power to actually start spinning. This may be higher for specific types of fans, especially high RPMs ones. Noctuas I've had from experience have quite heavy blades, and require more voltage than cheaper fans. That's just the physical nature of it, you may not go lower than that with those. If you want quieter fans, you gotta start with lower RPM versions of those fans.

To give you an exemple, this is my own 1200 RPM 140mm Noctua fan: image

51% is the threshold from a dead stop, and then it can go down to 30% because it already has momentum, it's easier than starting from 0.

Even by starting at 50 and trying to bring it down below 41% doesn't work and its annoying because I know under the gigabyte SIV software they could run @ 800RPM - the fans can do this but Fan Control doesn't seem to be able to do so. I'm going to have a look in the BIOS for anything that could be responsible. I also do get "this fan is being controlled elsewhere" often Fans1

Ok - BIOS strikes again. As I said on the OP I had a new MOBO - turns out each of the fan settings had to be changed to PWM. The ASROCK BIOS isn't as nice as the gigabyte one so I must have missed it. As you can see all seems to be working. Although I do still get messages about missing sensors on start-up. I've Inc. the time to launch to 2 minutes - I'll see if that fixes it.

2 minutes might be overkill, but that should do the trick.
