Crashes on startup #2670

Describe the bug Today I started Fan Control as usual but on the start up it crashed. I restarted my PC multiple times and uninstalled and reinstalled Fan Control twice, but it still crashed directly after the GUI was initially rendered. Then I deleted the installation folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\FanControl and after a new installation it was working again. I saved the old userConfig.json and tried it out with the new installation, but it crashed again. So my guess is that the issue is in the config file.

I had to recreate my config which was a bit annoying. I took the values from the old config, so it wasn't that bad.

Is there a log.txt file next to FanControl.exe with recent date entries? No

I had a similar thing happen to me after I upgraded to 199. Here's the event viewer log...

I had a similar thing happen to me after I upgraded to 199.

I installed two graphics cards .

After uninstalling and reinstalling the "DDU" AMD driver, v199 operated normally ! Seems to be an AMD issue?

Same here. whenever Windows 11 wakes up fancontrol crashes with this error message (Windows Event Log):

Please tell me how I can help - I will provide more information if needed. I have a 7800x3d with an internal GPU, thats why I have 2 GPUs - the internal one and an external GPU which is Nvidia - the internal GPU seems to be the culprit as the error is in the ATI.dll and my other graphics card is Nvidia.

So THIS is why Fan Control has started crashing for me on startup.

I recently replaced my motherboard and while testing the new board, I didn't have my main Nvidida GPU in the PC. I was running off the iGPU on my 7800x3D and Windows auto installed AMD drivers for it. Beforehand I didn't have any AMD drivers installed.

At roughly the same time I had changed over from the .NET 4.8 version of FanControl to the .NET 8 one so I thought that was the culprit and just now switched back and came here to report it but turns out it's the AMD driver, not the .NET difference.

Anyways, I get the same kind of error in Event Viewer as others here. I have the portable version of Fan Control V199. AMD Radeon Driver version 31.0.24002.92 - Windows 11 23H2

I will release v200 very soon which will exclude the iGpu with ryzen cpus. This should fix the crashes.

And thank you so much, @Rem0o, for this amazing piece of software. I'm a silence freak and hate big bulky OEM software that spies on you(Win 11 excluded ig) and BIOS level fan control has never been quite good enough so this is a godsend for me. Keep up the great work!

The fix is out: But fancontrol seems to keep crashing on hibernate wakeup with teh following error log in the event viewer:

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition may unexpectedly initiate upon system wake from sleep mode. [Resolution targeted for 24.9.2]

Adrenaline seems to do funny stuff upon wake from sleep. May be linked.

I was on an old version of adrenaline (as I do not use the igpu) I will update now to the newest and see if that helps.

Update: I can confirm it is NOT crashing with the newest AMD drivers (Adrenaline 24.8.1.) - 32.0.11037.4004 .

And i am back again crashing - seems not to be solved. Sorry I know it is an annoying bug. Not sure what I can do on my side.
