If you go into the main.js file, under var htmlFormatterSettings = { you can add

  sup: {
    des: "<sup>",
    symbol: "<sup></sup>",
    shift: 5,
    selectionInput: 5,
    objectType: "htmlFormatterSetting",
  },
  sub: {
    des: "<sub>",
    symbol: "<sub></sub>",
    shift: 5,
    selectionInput: 5,
    objectType: "htmlFormatterSetting",

and that should work.
