This looks good to me. I'd prefer if we could find a way to notify devs when we're doing this, but the notification shouldn't block this going in before the next release. @jaspermdegroot your call.

I am going to merge this first, then I will look into the notification. That something we should try to do for all deprecated filters, not just this one.
