Hi I'd love it if we could separate the Assistant and the Assisted. Ideally the assisted would have a single, executable (no install required) that they simply run and let us know the number we need to enter to connect.

This will help understand:

This way they don't have to:

This way we can:

Hi. I think this could be achieved with the means of project jigsaw. Like this no installed JRE would be required. I started with the modularisation of Dayon! at the beginning of this year - but I didn't push it any further. Maybe I'll start a separate branch for this feature.

Modularisation would be great. Teamviewer is the big player in the field and they're getting a bit power mad, shutting down old versions to force people onto new, subscription based models. Something open source that could grow to take on their dominance would be excellent

Hi, I finally found the time to address this issue. The upcoming release (v1.9.0) will feature "quick launch" versions of the assistant and the assisted which can be downloaded separately and which will run without installation. This release will also allow to pass the connection settings for the assisted by command line parameters.

Excellent! I look forward to it. Is there an announcement mailing list for when a new release is out?

RetGal commented 4 years ago

Nope, there is no mailing list, as the project is still a one man show ;) But I'm pretty optimistic that I'll release the new version within the next days - definitely before Christmass!
