Issue with updating the firmware #8

i plug in the device via a micro usb cable, the blue light lights up and then stops and it doesn't show up on the list of serial ports. The cable is fine i've used it with other devices, i even tried plugging it on every other usb port on my computer and nothing. Any advice would be nice. Does the device need to be powered on when doing the firmware update? I'm asking because the manual is a bit vague on the update process

Alright so i finally figured it out, i plugged the GBSC on my laptop (without any video cables or vga or the power cable) and in device manager the device showed up with a com port 5 and a device type of CH340, if anyone else is having this issue make sure to test different cables and pcs because my main one didn't have that specific driver installed. I then opened NodeMCU-PyFlasher selected the appropriate com port and i left everything at default waited for the firmware to finish and done. Some tutorials that i saw on youtube did mention on the erase flash option to click yes, wipe all data (i tried it and in both cases the settings that i had before needed to be restored so make sure to make a backup in the GBSC website by clicking the thunder icon and under Backup (intended for same device) ----> Backup and once you update the firmware just click restore and you're all set :)
