I took a peek at some Live Photos and my guess is these two are the keys:
In the HEIC: MakerNotes:LivePhotoVideoIndex=8595185700
In the QuickTime: QuickTime:LivePhotoAuto=1
My guess is the LivePhotoVideoIndex
tells Photos where in the QuickTime to start playing. I changed this to 0 and it still works but does appear to have a discontinuity (video started from beginning causing a jump in the preview). However, when I removed this tag on my phone (iOS 17.6.1) I still got the video when swiping. So need to explore more. I have no idea how to determine the correct offset which might require in depth knowledge of QuickTime format.

I'm literally running around the house with excitement that I finally have a robust way to create Live Photos from clips of video and photos I control, from my Mac
I'm a wedding videographer who has dreamt for years of being able to turn clips of my films into live photos for my clients. your tool allows me do do so while maintaining the full resolution of the video
and its going to allow me to batch process hundreds of photos and videos at once and quickly turn them into legitimate live photos
I just have one little question,
with Live Photos taken from and iPhone, as you swipe through the photos app, you get a hint of motion indicating that each picture is a live photo
in my testing so far, this doesn’t happen with the live photos ive created through your tool, no doubt this is because the Live Photo has no way of knowing which frame of video is the hero image that has been supplied
is there a way to tell the tool that the jpeg im using is exactly the centre frame? so that I can get that hint of motion?
also so that the live photos I create can be used on iPhone lock screens with all the benefits that Live Photos have? where they transition from motion to still?
thank you a million times for this tool though. I'm truly ecstatic right now
