To make commonality more obvious, even in complex graphs, providing a special highlight for nodes connect to two or more of the selected nodes would be very useful for our user.
E.g.
If a user tries to see what he has in common with a different person, all their shared interests and/or skills and/or projects would have a special highlight on it, so it will be very easy to see them, even if you search for commonalities between many entities.

Anyway this deals directly with what people are expecting in selection, and will be useful when looking for relationships between either highly connected entities or simple a large number of entities.
