Confusing behaviour of search/selection in selection bar

In selection bar, When I type: "Citizen science" I get: screen shot 2015-04-13 at 11 50 03

If I type the same thing, but select the auto-complete function I get:

Nothing after the final "I get:" - please complete, I don't understand otherwise.
