Random crash entering/leaving settings screen back on r172

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using r172, random dsi code dump when clicking settings button
2. Random dsi code dump when on or leaving the settings screen
3. This happened on r162. But not on 163.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Some operations that kick in when entering or leaving the settings screen
may have become unstable.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
revision 172 (also happened on rev 162 but seemingly fixed on rev 163)

Please provide any additional information below.
Behavior happens both when the loader is started from a channel and from
the HBC.
