Question, does MegaCD require ahbprot access to work right, because it works
fine when booted through HBC, but does not when booting from other dol loaders.

be more precise, what does or not "work fine" exactly ?
ahbprot is only needed for dvd access

It runs CD games slower from USB, presumably due to a lack of 2.0 speed. I
assume it's a IOS 58 thing. I'm booting it with r1203 of USB loader GX's
homebrew launcher (with GX being booted from a forwarder installed in
priiloader mod) It seems random what it boots apps with, as of now. I think
Cyan is gonna add a force homebrew loading with ios 58 setting, so i wouldn't
worry too much. Was just wondering, since Genplus GX has always been stubborn
with what it's booted with.

The game that runs all slow is sonic cd, btw, both J and U versions.

Any games will run slow from a slow USB device, if it only affect a specific
game then this is no normal, unless that's the only game you tried which had cd
audio or is accessing the disc continuously during gameplay. Sonic CD is
notoriously slow on real hardware as well, compared to Sonic on Mega Drive, so
there might be unnormally slow and normally slow games.
Finally, genplus gx does not care from where it is booted from, it's more that
some loaders might be coded by people who don't really know what they are doing
and have been copypasting dol loading codes from other old loaders without
understanding how it works or what limitations were
It's up to the loader to setup correct IOS for homebrew, not homebrew itself,
it's not "forcing", it's the way it should be done

The thing is, it works fine and is at full speed when the emulator is booted
with homebrew channel. I'm not sure what the problem is, really. My best guess
is that the emulator isn't being booted with IOS 58, for 2.0 speed access.

With apologies to Eke-Eke for speaking on his behalf, what he's saying is that
the problem is external to Genesis Plus GX. It would be more productive to
report this issue to the developers of the loader you're using to get them to
fix it on their end.

@vaguerant Of course its an external issue. I was simply proposing an internal
solution. I knew that from the beginning. He made it WontFix (which, i honestly
expected that) So, I just asked a question that would help me understand the
nature of the problem, so that i could fix it, since he IS the coder of this
fine emulator, i figured he could help me, and he did.
And thats been already done, btw. As I said, Cyan is working on it.
