Sonic Adventure (PAL) #1

Open hatoving opened 1 year ago

hatoving commented 1 year ago

So far, the game seems to be running full-speed (that is, 25 FPS since it's the PAL version) with some stuttering in levels here and there (including frame skipping). Video cutscenes (as in, cutscenes that use video files probably) don't run very well. They stutter pretty frequently. However, I did notice some graphical bugs:

Sonic's model looks a little weird sometimes, including his shoes. image

The Chaos Emerald in this scene is practically invisible. Tails is holding nothing lmfao image

Settings used: Neon SIMD, Simple Shaders and Mipmaps were on. Self modifiying code checks were set to Reduced. Automatic Frame Skipping was set to Maximum. Downclock ratio was set to 1.479.

I'll continue to play the game and update the report if more issues occur.

Rinnegatamante commented 1 year ago

Could you try without Neon SIMD to see if the graphical issues are solved? You could also try Per Triangle Sorting. Also what label you suggest? Playable or Perfect?

Playable: Games that can be played at a decent enough framerate and with no major bug/glitches. |   Perfect: Games that play fullspeed or very near to fullspeed with no issues. |
hatoving commented 1 year ago

I'll try em out. Also, I would suggest Playable as the game is still stuttering at lot while being full-speed sometimes

hatoving commented 1 year ago

Just tried it out without Neon SIMD. As far as I can tell, there's not really a huge difference in performance or in graphics (although the Chaos Emerald is not invisible this time!). Per Triangle Sorting didn't help either (although I think it made it more jaggery, Per Strip Sorting felt a lot more smoother for some reason).

Rinnegatamante commented 1 year ago

Another one to try is Depth Interpolation (also you could try to disable Mipmaps).

hatoving commented 1 year ago

There's a softlock at Icecap. Using these settings fixes it:

Cable -> RGB Component Shadows, Fog, Simple Shaders, Mipmaps, Native Depth Interpolation and Neon SIMD -> On Downclock Ratio -> 1.479

Hello, the game crashes on the station square loading screen, does anyone know what the solution is?

Rinnegatamante commented 1 year ago

Try to set Self Modifying Code to Full. (Or Reduced if you had it Off).

Rinnegatamante commented 1 year ago

For the Cable, i suggest to stick to TV Composite and Broadcast to PAL/Europe until the deadlock mentioned by @hatoving happens. In general TV Composite settings makes games lock at 50/25 fps instead of 60/30 thus producing smoother results. (The sole game that feels smoother without it is Code Veronica so far)

Sonic_Adventure_USA.gdi.zip

New cheats from Esppiral for Regular US version and International one. This has 60 FPS, 30 FPS, 20 FPS patches and proper Widescreen patch.

BonQerss commented 1 year ago

Cheat file doesn't appear to work for the PAL ROM, even while using the international cheat. Switch to NTSC ROM, but follow all the same settings from the comments above, then enable the cheats and it should work.

Another issue to note, is that the music is not looping properly. After the music plays once, it stops.

gokuthehedgehog56 commented 1 year ago

Also, Beating Big's final level (Hot Shelter) apparently causes Knuckles' intro cutscene to play, and softlocks after the first few lines of dialogue are said.

Edit: This just seems to be an emulation bug with the European version specifically, since both the PC version of Flycast and Redream also exhibit this bug in the PAL version. This bug does not exist in the US version though, so switching to that may help.

First of all, a genuine thank you to everyone involved in this wonderful project. I have a question, what type of file for the dc roms do you recommend to use? I’ve personally been using cdi, and wanted to apply the new patches on sonic adventure, but I suppose you have to have a gdi type rom for them to work on it? Because I can’t get the patch to work.

Is your rom NTSC or PAL? It must be NTSC.

Kestwin commented 2 weeks ago

When big’s cutscene before chaos battle ends it softlocks and doesn’t let me continue, what setting is recommended to continue?

Rinnegatamante commented 2 weeks ago

Try to increase the Self Modifying Code accuracy (you need to change it prior launching the game in order to take effect).
