Are you using a prebuilt kernel? If yes, why?

Yes. 

All zuma-based targets are using prebuilt kernels right now.  Due to various reasons the build system in not equip to handle compiling the kernel inline with the rest of the ROM. LineageOS guys are hard at work though with a more ideal solution.
