Are you using a prebuilt kernel? If yes, why?

Yes. garnet is a GKI device, and the OEM kernel (xiaomi) is also a common one. 
Kernel source from xiaomi isn't buildable and would be an outdated version of the android-common kernel.

Hey, so if i understand correctly, you have the kernel sources available to you, but yet instead of working on them and upstreaming or fixing compile, you are using a prebuilt kernel? Please could you tell me why? Also, please tell me what the difference between your trees and these ones is. https://github.com/garnet-random

my trees are based on the ones from garnet-random. The main contributor (Adarsh Grewal) recently announced their departure from the community for an undetermined amount of time, so I expect no updates from there.

Since the prebuilt kernel isn't sufficient, then I will switch to inline building of the kernel I already include (villhaze! 1.10 based on android12-5.10.222)

a version based on 5.10.224 exists but after some testing it's not stable on this device.

The existing device tree is enough for main functionality but the additions in my own include:
