I have not observed this behavior in QRave (maybe other fixes changed this?). If this is still observed, please reopen the ticket.
I think @KellyMWhitehead is right. @MattReimer proposed that behavior for duplication of views in their own separate thing, but we never implemented it to my knowledge.
Are you saying we filed a bug against something I fever-dreamed?!?
Yikes. My grasp on reality may be slipping a little.

Well... I could be wrong too. But I use QRAVE and a ton and I have never seen it do that. We talked so much about it maybe we thought it was real. But I think we just imagined it. Nice eh?
QRAVE and ArcRAVE handle project views differently:
QRAVE
QRAVE currently adds a dedicated group layer for the project view and adds the required layers inside this group layer. THis causes duplication and confusion if the layers also exist in the main project ToC group layer.
ArcRAVE
ArcRAVE simply adds the layers to their appropriate place in the main project ToC group layer. There is no special group layer for project views. Essentially adding a project is saying "ensure these layers are in the tree".
Solution
After discussing with @joewheaton we have agreed that ArcRAVE has the desired behaviour. Please implement in QRAVE.
